JanEliassonThe 2013 United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit was billed as: Architects of a Better World. It focused on engaging the private sector to “spur a sustainability revolution in markets and societies around the world (Ban Ki-Moon).”

In his remarks Jan Eliasson, Deputy UN Secretary General, said that “networks are the soul of the global compact”—after Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, advocated for “global online education.”

BrownEliassonLE mentioned to Mr. Eliasson that the world has 7 billion people in it, but because of progress in technology only 1 billion are needed to run the world—and that number gets smaller every day. So what to do with the rest? He said: “That is the key issue.”
