In analyzing the Great War (1914-1918), one commentator described it as “a catastrophe that came from nowhere.” Actually the war started, continued, and (never really) ended from darkened hearts and minds — driven by greed, pride, vengeance, and self-interest.

Sadly, today’s leaders seem even more lacking in goodness than their predecessors. The U.S. made crisis in Syria is testimony to that.
