SpiritOfStLouisOn this day ninety years ago, US airmail pilot Charles Lindberg (‘Lucky Lindy’) — having taken off from Roosevelt Field on Long Island the day before — landed at Le Bourget Aerdrome, Paris, after a 33 hour flight.

Years later in his book, The Spirit of Saint Louis, Mr. Lindberg comments: “We have seen the aircraft, to which we devoted our lives, destroying the civilization that created them. We realize the very efficiency of our machines threatens the character of the men who build and operate them.”

President Trump’s commitment to sell Saudi Arabia $350 billion in weapons, on this anniversary weekend, might be seen as further proof of that.
